I broke it down 100% and cleaned everything pretty good. It wasn't seized so much as gunked in place. I put a pair of vice grips on the biggest flat head i had, and SLOWLY applied pressure on the large screw after applying PB blaster. The bore was very dark and dull.Īs you can see above, i clearly got the thing disassembled. Hard to see, but the last 1" or 2" of the barrel (closest to the camera)was a dusty rust color, there was all sorts of crumbs in the barrel, and the firling towards the end looked to be absent. Missing buttplate (Seems to be unobtainium)Ĭracked trigger guard, but serviceable ($18 to replace). Stock is actually in mostly decent shape except 1 crack. Mossberg and Sons Model 42C (Siumilar to the infamous M44 from CMP) All I wanted was something fun to work on, so this works!Īnyway, here's the goods, I may need some advice through here as I've never really 'restored' or even owned an old firearm.

So, basically, I bought this trashed shotgun for him, he paid me for it, and gave me a old ***. 22 that is a project gun, and he doesn't have the time or skills for. I told him he could have it for the $100 since I didn't really care, and he said he would give me an old mossberg. A buddy of mine contacted me and realized I had beat him to buying theshotgun as he saw it on our local forum as well. I just wanted somehting to work on, and a $100 pump gun didnt sound bad. I snagged this trashed Maverick 88 for $100 bucks on a whim the other day.
